THE BIG LEBOWSKI!!! If you haven’t seen this movie shame on you. It’s one of the biggest cult films to come from the 90’s. The Big Lebowski is a very quirky film that may not connect with most audiences now but it’s my kind of humor. It’s directed by The Coen Brothers who have also directed The Ladykillers and Fargo, which I will have a blog post about later. But if you haven’t seen it here’s a recap. Basically there are two Jeffrey Lebowskis living in Los Angeles. When the older, richer and handicapped Lebowski’s young trophy wife gets kidnapped he enlists “The Dude” to help him with the ransom delivery. But all “The Dude” wants to do is get high, go bowling and chill. That’s really all I can give you without giving the whole juicy story away.
I watched this movie again this past weekend and fell in love with it all over again. This has got to be one of my favorite performances from Jeff Bridges. It’s funny watching this movie and watching interviews of him and see that there really isn’t a difference between Jeffrey “The Dude” Lebowski and Jeff Bridges. But with that being said “The Dude” surprisingly isn’t my favorite character. The MVP of the film, in my opinion, is Walter who is played Sully. But most people know him as John Goodman. I’m kind of that friend that’s super annoying and just a pest to be around but you can’t help but love which is exactly what Walter is to “The Dude”.
Another honorable mention from the cast is the hilarious and clueless Steve Buscemi. Steve plays Donny, the third member in the “The Dude” and Walter’s bowling team. Donny’s always entering in scenes when Walter and “The Dude” are having a heated discussion and always asking questions which prompts Walter to say my favorite line from the movie: “Shut the fuck up Donny!” SPOILER ALERT: Donny dies. But other than that its a great film to watch especially if you’re a fan of Jeff Bridges like I am.
